Adult trauma counseling

Build boundaries despite guilt, strengthen your self-esteem, and create healthier relationships

Welcome

I’m Dr. Sandra Zuazo, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with 10 years of experience, providing California telehealth therapy in English and Spanish. My work is trauma-affirming, neuroaffirming, and queer-affirming, and my approach is warm, collaborative, and honest.

I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University-Los Angeles and my B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). I’ve also worked across a range of settings, including schools, domestic violence shelters, community mental health, and private practice, which helps me bring both depth and practical tools into our work together.

My Specialties are helping working professionals who want to:

  • Heal the impact of narcissistic parents and emotionally immature family dynamics

  • Learn how to set boundaries with family and in relationships without drowning in guilt

  • Reduce people-pleasing and build lasting self-esteem

  • Improve relationship patterns and communicate more confidently and effectively

  • Feel calmer in your body and not just “understand it intellectually”

I draw from CBT, DBT, IFS, and Brainspotting to support both insight and real-life change. If you’re curious about working together, you can book a 15-minute consultation call to see if it’s a good fit.

I help people who struggle to assert themselves in relationships so they can develop safe, balanced, and emotionally fulfilling connections.

What therapy looks like with me

Therapy isn’t just a space to vent, it’s also a space to create change.

Together, we may work on:

  • Boundary-setting and communication that actually holds up in real life

  • Trauma-informed tools to reduce reactivity, shutdown, and dissociation

  • Identifying old roles (caretaker, peacemaker, scapegoat) and choosing new ones

  • Strengthening self-trust so decisions feel clearer and less guilt-driven

  • Improving relationships and breaking repeating patterns.

Over time, many clients notice they:

  • Understand themselves and their patterns with more clarity

  • Say “no” more comfortably and follow through

  • Feel less guilty, less reactive, and more grounded

  • Make different relationship choices with more confidence

  • Feel more secure in who they are and what they need

Therapy process

  • Person making a phone call to schedule a therapy consultation, taking the first step toward healing, support, and personal growth.

    Scheduling a consultation

Schedule a free consultation to discuss what brings you to therapy, explore your goals, and see if it feels like the right fit. This initial conversation is a safe space to ask questions, share your concerns, and learn more about how therapy can support your healing and growth.

  • Developing and working toward treatment goals

We’ll collaborate to create personalized treatment goals that align with your needs and values. These goals will guide our work together and provide a clear path toward healing, growth, and emotional well-being.

  • Leaf changing color over time, symbolizing personal growth, emotional healing, and transformation through ongoing therapy sessions.

    Time, trust, and transformation

Healing and personal growth take time. Through ongoing therapy, clients experience deeper emotional insight, greater self-awareness, and lasting change. With each session, you’ll continue to strengthen coping strategies, reinforce new patterns, and navigate life’s challenges with more clarity and confidence. Therapy is not a quick fix; it’s a powerful investment in your emotional well-being and long-term mental health
